Electric bikes <\/a>(e-bikes) are categorized as “low-speed electric bicycles” in Texas and are subject to Texas Department of Transportation restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E-bikes in Texas must have fully functional pedals and an electric motor that is less than 750 watts<\/a>. The motor may only help the rider while they pedal, and the bike must have a peak speed of 20 mph on a level surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E-bikes are not permitted on sidewalks, and riders must adhere to the same traffic restrictions as regular bicycles. When used at night, e-bikes must additionally have a white light on the front and a red reflector on the rear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
